Development and modernisation of Polish universities

“The European Investment Bank is an important partner of the University of Warsaw and all Polish universities. It is an institution that supports the development of higher education, innovation and new technologies,” said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, the UW Rector, opening a conference on the role of innovation in shaping the future of higher education. The event took place on 16th October.

New ways to emit light

Scientists from the Faculty of Physics and the Center for New Technologies at the University of Warsaw and Emory University in Atlanta, USA, have investigated how atoms’ mutual interaction change the way light is emitted, opening up new opportunities for quantum technologies. The results of the study were published in the journal Physical Review Letters.

Quantum radio antenna

Researchers from the Faculty of Physics, the Centre of New Technologies and the Centre for Quantum Optical Technologies at the University of Warsaw have developed a new type of all-optical radio receiver based on the fundamental properties of Rydberg atoms. The results of the study were published in the journal “Nature Communications.”

New MAB Center of Excellence at the University of Warsaw

The Foundation for Polish Science has announced the results of the call for proposals under the International Research Agendas (MAB FENG) initiative. Funding has been awarded to a project submitted by the University of Warsaw, among others. The new Center of Excellence will be headed by Prof. Ryszard Buczyński from the Faculty of Physics.

Discoveries in Argishtikhinili

An Armenian-Polish archaeological expedition, led among others by Dr Mateusz Iskra from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw, has discovered a unique idol figure and the largest urn-field cemetery in Armenia. The finds from Argishtikhinili shed new light on the daily life and beliefs of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Urartu 2,500 years ago.

First Meeting of the Rector’s Team for Countering Hate

Hate has no place at the University of Warsaw. Developing recommendations for countering hate and a rapid response procedure is the primary task of the newly established Rector's Team. The first meeting took place on 7th October.

University of Warsaw scientists in 4EU+ Visiting Professorships programme

Three scientists from the University of Warsaw have been selected in the third edition of the Visiting Professorships programme, organised by the 4EU+ Alliance. The researchers will pursue their research projects at Charles University in Prague, the University of Copenhagen, and the University of Milan. Three scientists from partner universities will come to the University of Warsaw.

UNICA network meeting

Representatives of over 50 universities affiliated with the UNICA network discussed research cooperation in a changing environment and scientific data security at the University of Warsaw.

Scholarships for outstanding young scientists 2025

17 young scientists from the University of Warsaw have received scholarships from the Minister of Science and Higher Education. 16 postdoctoral researchers and one doctoral student were awarded.

Welcome Point UW workshops for foreigners

In October, the University of Warsaw is organising a series of workshops and meetings, primarily for international students who are starting their studies at the University of Warsaw this academic year.

A good start at UW doctoral schools

From October 1st to 3rd, first-year doctoral candidates took part in the “Good Start” implementation programme. Thanks to the involvement of UW’s units and central offices, young researchers were able to learn about the university’s rich offer right at the beginning of their education – from social support and assistance in carrying out research projects to cultural and sports activities.

A new dimension of quantum cryptography

Scientists from the Faculty of Physics at the University of Warsaw have investigated a novel system for quantum key distribution (QKD) that employs so-called high-dimensional encoding. Although the system proposed by the researchers is based on a phenomenon known to physicists for almost 200 years, the new solution is simpler to construct and scale than existing solutions.
